temp sensor where and which one ????

If the ECU detects a fault in either the fuel temp sensor (located on the fuel pressure regulator near the right hand rear of the cylinder block) or the coolant temp sensor (located at the front of the head in the top right) it will restrict power in the same way it would for an overheating engine. I have just replaced the coolant temp sensor on my TD5 defender due to this. My sensor would not read above normal wether the engine was overheating or not. Power is now fully restored. Also a faulty fuel cooler allowing fuel and water to mix can do the same. I have just done the headgasket on mine and due to the overheating I have blown my new fuel cooler that I fitted 2 months ago. They are £230 new. There is a guy on ebay selling the old style ones seconhand for £15. I am buying one of them for now.

Ok,but is it being operated, are the modulator pipes connected, does the modulator solenoid work and can you monitor boost pressure via Testbook etc?

What about the hoses for the intercooler and turbo delaminating? This is really common and causes issues with power delivery. If they are overly soft this could maybe indicate they need changing. This includes teh hoses before the turbo as well as after and either side of the intercooler.

I read a thread on a forum in the last day or so that sounded like your issue, and it mentioned hoses. If I can find it I'll post it here.

Cheers

Andy
