Good morning Troops!
My daughter’s 02 plate TD5 D2 has developed a knock from the exhaust against the chassis.
I’m guessing its the flexi joint near the manifold.
The main question is; can the catalytic convertor be removed and still pass the MoT?
Cheers

Start with the simple stuff - check the 4 exhaust hangers, they are known to split. :)
As far as cats go, much depends upon the mot tester

Like previous reply, dependant on tester really. Not had cat or egr or centre box on mine for about 4yrs now and never been an issue.

Technically your car should be eu3 as it is after 2001 see https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/emissions/euro-emissions-standards/#:~:text=Euro 5 emissions standard became, and comes with certain restrictions.
so should have a cat fitted, but some MOT testers seem to have a bit of a blind spot over all this.
But I wouldn't trust it.:(
However the knock will not necessarily mean you have to change the cat.
My thought was to remove the Cat from the system, as a front pipe without one will be cheaper.

Yes and it would go quicker too, and use less fuel. But if the MOT tester realises the year of the car you could be fooked and have to buy a cat anyway.
Still you could always swap them over after MOT time.
(No, I did not just say that, honest officer!)
