Disco TD5 03 mid pipe removal

Evening all
Just wondered if anyone can clarify something, I want to do the de-cat mod on my Disco TD5 03 plate, i thought the cat was on the downpipe part of the exhaust, until scrabbling underneath her today only to find there wasn't one on, only a middle box is this the cat or particle filter I have to replace. Evening all
Cheer`s for the replies, should engage brain before asking daft questions, but it seem`s not all o3 disco 2`s were fitted with a cat, like mine it seems. so the question is it worth while replacing the middle box (silencer) with a straight through pipe, I`ve heard they can be quite loud on motorway driving but does make the motor more responsive any feed back would be appreciated Andy
