Disco Steering locked!

So - I just got a '98 Disco 1 and took it to my mechanic to get the O2 sensor changed, when he called me to inform me that the steering had locked before he could get it into the garage for work. I rushed over, and sure enough, the steering wheel is locked! The engine starts just fine, I can get in and out of gear, but the steering wheel will not turn! Any ideas?

Firstly, I take it you have tried wriggling the steering wheel, whilst turing it to no avail.
Take the covers off the steering column, the ones behind the steering wheel. You'll see the 2 bolts holding on the steering lock on top of the steering column - heads sheered off.
Get a pointing chisel (for pointing brick courses - about 9" long) & sharpen it.
Give the 2 retaining bolts (cone shaped) a sharp(lump hammer) tap with the chisel anti-clockwise, bolts should now be loose.
It'll get you going

Turns out it's not on the column... opened it up, loosened the bolts, no luck. It seems to be stuck at the pump/gear box under the hood - Anyone with experience with the power steering pumps on these? I just got this Disco, and am REALLY concerned I'm going to be spending more to fix this than I paid for the vehicle!

prove your theory, remove ball joint from drop arm, if the hubs move jacked up=okay.
Remove steering joint from steering box(If you have air bag or cruise control buttons) set wheels straight and note position before disconnecting.

Haven't heard of box seizing, normally leak.
