Disco spare wheel carrier

The spare wheel carrier on my disco is flaking and rusty I want to take it off to respray it or replace it. Do I have to take off the inside panel to get at the nuts or will they stay in place. Any assistance or jokes will be greatfuly received.

it should have welded bolts on the carrier and the nuts are behind the interior door panel

Thanks yelladisco I tried to take it off and the bolts unthreaded easily but I felt that if had carried on the nuts would have dropped inside the panel its a 1996 would that be different to others?
Think I ll just go for it anyway and see what happens thought it might be a common thing Thanks Tony

The door pannel is not hard to remove you may break a couple of the plastic clips that hold it on but there should be enough left on to work. Mine is held on with half the quantity that it started with and looks fine.

Those clip thingies break really easily - but only cost 10p each. Worth having a handful at the ready - 'cause without them it is a bit of a bugger to stop random rattles from the internal rear door trim.

I just broked most of mine getting to the wiper motor

And i still not got a working rear wiper
