Hi all,

My Disco 4 2009 just gone in due to restricted performance with a split manifold. Specialist Landy engineer said this fault is quite common. He also said most of the Discovery’s that come in are due to engine problems from oil sensors failing and the driver not realising that the vehicle has no oil in it.
First motor I’ve had with no dipstick to check oil levels. How does one check on oil levels with no dipstick with a possible faulty oil level sensor. Not saying my sensor is faulty but how would I know if it was, apart from the engine seizing due to oil shortage. Thanks.

The drivers dash information display (service menu) will tell u, info on access is in owners hand book.
Same way as in my XEJag. the engine doesn’t matter petrol or diesel its the same, although UK D4s are only diesel as we know.

Thanks. What if the oil level Sensor is faulty and does not show a reduced oil level. Know how to locate and see lol level but have been advised that the sensors often fail. Thoughts ??
Thanks
James.

Okay, any sensor electronic or mechanical can fail and does, and in your case its electronic and it failed to show the oil level.
Regular checks on on engine oil level would show the oil level ok or going below the correct level therefore requiring a top up is due. The question is where to u think the oil has gone, also was the oil level low enough to cause the manifold damage or is that unrelated? do u carry out your own servicing or leave it to a garage whom forgot to refill the engine with the amount of oil required. :(

So whats it going to cost to get u back on the road?

Hi

Thanks for the reply.
Only had the vehicle a month an no issue with the oil. Cracked manifold due to age of car and design. Mechanic, who is a reputable one, was telling me it’s very common as is the fuel sensors failing and drivers not knowing if the oil has run out. I would always check my vehicles oil level via the dipstick but Disco 4’s don’t have dipsticks. Just have to work off the dash reading via a sensor.
Thanks
James
