Hi,
yesterday my Disco started loosing power, essentialy make it work hard and it will judder.

I took the fuel filter off (which has only done 700miles) and it looked ok. While doing this however, I noticed if I flip the lift pump priming level up and down no diesel was coming out.

There is also a loudish ticking sound coming from somewhere in amongst the drivers side of the engine. When idleing is ticks away in ryhthem with the engine, and when given some throttle it is still there but less noticible over the engine itself.

Any ideas? Would padocks for a new pump be worth a look? Is it as simple as removing the old one and putting in the new one?

Cheers

Hi

Just put a new lift pump on my 300tdi. Just depressureise the system then undo the bolts. Hack saw the pipes that the old nuts that hold the fuel pipes on, pop them onto your new pump then the crush rings then bolt it all back together, bleed and start.:D

Some camshaft driven lift pumps will pump nothing through the primer lever if the camshaft is in a certain position. Might still be the pump but turn the engine to a different position and try again to confirm your diagnosis.

it is as simple as unbolt other one, first remember to disconnect battery and depressurize the system then bolt new one on prime it and you should be ok.

hi mate stanlyman is spot on there with his comment , the 300 tdi lift pump needs to be on cam, be fore you can prime the diesel, just give the ignition key a flic to turn the engine a bit at a time before you buy a new pump, hope this helps, oilburner
