Idiot guide to get the belt on please.
This is where I am at,
Pins in pump and flywheel,
Pump sprocket bolts loose,
Cam sprocket and crank lining up with timing marks,
Belt on crank, around idler, cam sprocket, pump sprocket.
There is no way I can get the tensioner and bolt on, if I put the tensioner in place I can barely see 1/3rd of the bolt hole.
Is there a better technique or what have I done wrong?

Loosely fit tensioner before belt ...

I dont know but this looks like a good vid

Watched that, looks so easy 5 minute job.
I have tried with bolt in and tensioner loose , no chance getting the belt on.
Notice in the video he takes the bolt out again.
There seems to be too much tension on the belt already so I can move the tensioner, the belt is correct

Note it has to be tight on the idler side Crank to Cam to Pump going anticlockwise looking at it ...

Like I say I don't know, but.
If you have no slack between crank and cam over the idiler, the pump pulley slack needs to be "clockwise" so the tensioner pulls what's left.

It looks so simple.

Sorry not much help.

The following is my conclusion,
The tensioner doesn't have enough free movement/adjustment on it.
I had to put the belt on, then tensioner and put tension on it with 1/2 " ratchet with one hand, hold the tensioner level with the other hand and slot the bolt in with my other hand!
It's now all timed and torqued up.
Interesting that the specialist charged out for OEM (Dayco) belt kit, the belt I took off had no name on it.

Count the teeth on the old belt and compare to the new one. Also compare the idler/pullies.
You might have been supplied with a wrong part.
A specialist fitted the belt about 300 miles ago. I am now fitting a new belt but reusing the idler and tensioner they fitted. It was meant to be an oem kit they fitted but I am beginning to wonder if it's a cheapy and that is why I am having problems with the tensioner.
New belt is a correct Dayco one.
