Hi there,

I am a new member and i have just bought a 2002 TD5 ES with 88k miles. i am new to owning a 4x4 and relise that they dont drive like cars but i am really dissipointed with the performance of the disco especially when i towed my caravan, it seemed like it had no power stuggling to keep at 55-60 up hills in 5th gear on the motorway, and to get above that takes a real effort, when not towing it feels nice to drive just a bit sluggish and takes a real bootful to to go anything over the national speed limit for example 70-80 in 5th will take 10 sec or so if on the flat and will not go past 70mph on decent hill. Is this normal? please help:confused:

It should be better than that. My 300 tdi is quicker than that and the td5 has more power. Give it a good service and try some injector cleaner though it. Also put a k&n air filter on it. There are great gives you 5% more power and help swith with mpg too. Oh and they make the car sound great too !!!!!
Mudynaty.

Check the turbo wastegate isn't partially sticking, The EGR valve isn't blocked and also check that you don't have oil in your injector loom.

Cheers boys will check all off these things and get back to you, just bought a ITG panel filter is a k&N better also only getting 23MPG Granted mostly normal driving is it worth removing egr valve. Another point just came out this morning and the passenger rear suspention was on the stops but pumped back up ok.

Thanks again

I have the same issue & have tried everything to resolve it!!
Recently I was in Spain, struggling up a huge autovia hill climb, fully overland equip'd up & I was beaten to the top by a Fiat Panda!
I got 26 mpg on a 4000 mile trip to Morocco & back, 1200 miles off road, but the lack of torque on the motorways was tedious.
Especially now the wife wants me to start towing the horse!!

Im going with a remap from TD5ALIVE-its the way forward!
