disco 2 Compass mirror problems !!

Hi all.

I have a 2004 54 discovery es premium and have just fitted a compass mirror / auto dimming to it, as the old mirror was just auto dimming only.

It has the same multi plug to plug into it which i did and it all lights up when you turn the ignition to postion 2 or have the engine running, but after all the lights light up on it "maybe a light test" it just shows on the screen the letter C !!
Dont know if this means calibration ??
I read on a page on the internet earlier and it said drive around in a tight circle a couple of times and the mirror should then calibrate its postion Eg : N ,S E,W etc ....
I have not tried this yet but will give it a go in the morning ! Good excuse to do donuts on a grassy field !!
There is some sort of reset button on the bottom of the mirror but if you hold it in for a couple of seconds a number will apear, you can then if you push the button again take the number right from 1 - 15 but i dont know what this means ?? If you dont touch the button for a few seconds it then goes back to the letter C !!
I will ask landrover monday but before then thought i would ask you guys if you have any ideas ??

Thanks alot for that. It was perfect i put my area code in which was number 9 and done only just 1 circle and there it came the compass.
And thanks for that info it will help in the future when i need it again.
It should really come with a little book when you buy this i think but i suppose thats landrover.

would one of these mirrors work in a series 1 300tdi disco?

Hi Halo.

Well i am not to sure it will work on a series 1 discovery as the series 2 dicovery has a loom going to the mirrior with a multi plug on the end. Maybe a late 300 has ???
The loom supplies the power to the mirror, but i dont think it has anything to do with the auto dim and the compass operation. I am not 100 % though.
But i suppose if you give it a 12v feed and a earth it may work with no problem. It would be worth a try though.
Maybe you could ask landrover for a correct answer.
Hopefully sonebody has the answer on here.

yeah just needs a 12v supply,3rd cable is not needed as it goes to 12v when in reverse so mirror does not darken

Hi to all.

Just another question about my compass mirror i fitted. My writting on my mirror for the compass sometimes goes bright and dim, is this supposed to do this ?
It goes dim when i put my disco in my garage eg: when it gets darker i think ? Then if you take it out in the light it gets brighter well after a few minutes ? Is this like a auto dim for at night driving which makes it go dim and when you drive in the day it makes it go really bright ?
Maybe i have a faulty compass mirror ? Well it is brand new so i still have a year warrenty on it.
Any ideas ??
