On the 200TDi defender. It is a known problem for the dipstick tube to become dislodged and drop from its normal position. Does anyone know how to re-align the dipstick tube to its correct position?

or can yooz guys with 200TDi injuns, measure the tuve length fur me?.

i sed that - is that allowing fur any residual oil in the injun.

wot dont help is his sump is dented, so it loks like sump orf and dent knocking out first!

hence if someone knows the external tube length - that wud be quicker.

Oil volume will vary depending on whether an oil cooler is fitted or not.

I have just found this ----- the tube should measure 290mm from the top of the tube (with dipstick out) to the top of the retaining nut. Is this correct? Can someone check this figure for me plse.

Mind you - a new dipstick (with the positioning olive in the correct place) is only a fiver;)

Just measured mine fer yer. It's 305mm from the top of the nut to the top of the tube (dipstick out).
That's on a deepender of course, dunno if it's different on a disco.

it hasnt - i just couldnt be bothered to change it to red - it sorta smacks of "look at me - i paid money" and that aint my bag. I aint knockin anyone that has gorn red, I just paid my munney and dont shout about it - thas all. I have changed my description under my name tho - just to prove i have paid :D
