Hi all,
Was wondering if anybody had ever run dimethyl ether in with there diesel before on a landy? It basically raises the cetane level in diesel.
It's near enough what they add into the posh go faster diesel you'll find in garages but you can buy it in large quantity at low cost.

My old man runs it in his 240bhp Volvo xc90, cleans injectors out well and goes like stink compared to normal diesel.
Think he puts in 100ml per tank.

What is Dimethyl Ether (DME)?

Let me know ya thaughts :p

thoughts are.. it's a 2 ton brick landy... stop trying to make it go fast :p

Does better mpg aswell when your ain't got boot planted haha.
That's whys I run my 200tdi on the posh diesel as I get much better fuel consumption.
I think using ether instead would be a lot cheaper aswell instead if filling up with posh diesel ;)

wouldn't you have to tweak the pump since it's all mechanical or do you mean you don't have to boot it as much?

If it increases fuel consumption I'd be interested, but I've never heard of it and certainly there's no point me buying in bulk for the extra initial outlay the storage would cost against the amount I'd use .. The site you pointed to doesn't exactly feel like a 'retail' site ...

Just meaning when your not trying to drive like a yob it would do better mpg than standard fuel.

if you want to increase fuel consumption just put your foot down harder ;) :p

anyway, isn't this just a cetane boost like most other additives? can't see it being worthwhile imo

if you have already got it, do a lil mpg test. brim the tank one without the boost and see how far you get until you hit the red, etc

Yep will give it a go, the old man likes it says it's good stuff, I know already I get better mpg and cleaner burning with the posh diesel so guessing it will be around the same figures as that,

does posh diesel apologize for making your hands stink? :D

To be fair, I've run mine on all sorts of fuel and 'additives', currently on about 30 - 50% veg oil, so adding something else isn't a problem .. if I knew where I could get it!
