I moved to France with my 1997 110 300TDi and have a problem, it will not pass it's mot here because of the dim dipped headlights. When the sidelights are on and the engine is running the headlights come on dim. I looked in the manual and it is what should happen, but was only fitted to UK models. I need to disconnect this, anyone have an idea where to disconnect or what wire to cut.

Yes I have taken it for it mot here in France, failed on handbreak and dim dipped headlights, handbreak now fixed. Just headlights to sort out.

In answer to the question 'where in France' we are in a village called Saulge in the Pay de Loire, south of Normandy.
I have looked in the wings, taken out the headlights in case I could find an aditional wire and also in the light switch.

it's not in the wing under the bonnet, you have to remove the wheel arch spat and look underneath it's between the two skins. One on each side I'm pretty sure they are the ones that drop the voltage down to 6 volts

An' they said the closest thing to el slobo was a chimp wiv an 'aircut...

... you lives and learns ;)

I am still looking for the voltage reducer, taken the spats off today, nothing their, also taken the speedo and insrument panel out still nothing their, anyone have any idea's, must get the mot sorted.
The Saulges I live in is just south of Normandy.

Quoting from Haines'

"To comply with UK regulations, a "dim-dip" lighting system is fitted to most UK models. The system comprises of a control unit which is situated behind the instrument panel".

Unfortunately I don't know any more, except what someone posted ages ago about finding something odd behind the speedo bit of the dash and discovering that it was this control unit.

i have a picture off one fer you to look at but the dam thing wont upload , so i put it in me gallery piccys fer you to look at . and don't loose it they are expensive .

Found it now, it was behind the panel where the hazard light switch is. Only a one minute job to sort plus about 5 hours finding it.
Thank you to every one who responded.
