I have just aquired a set of tubular manifolds for my 1986 3.5 V8 EFI, but the outlet pipes are 2" which is bigger than my existing Y branch.

Does anyone know if the 3.9 Y branch has 2" pipes and if so is there any reason I cant use one (like is it the same shape ). I don't know if the cross member is the same as a 3.9, I heard there are some round section ones.

with the introduction of the cat exhaust the cross member was changed and a larger bore exhuast was fitted to aid gas flow. i would buy a collector kit and modife the system for what you need of buy the cross member to fit them

My pre cat 3.9 has the newer gearbox crossmember fitted. It also has 2 inch pipe work.
Running a crappy double S system with tubular manifolds.

The manifold flanges should be the same as the 3.5 (remove one cast manifold and check though).

You could probably get away with using a pipe converter to get the smaller bore for the 3.5 system (janspeed do them mail order as do most aftermarket places like A1)

Thanks Khryztal, my 3.5 Y-piece is rough so I want to buy a replacement, and so I was hoping that if I buy a 3.9 Y-piece it will mate to my tubulars.
I take it your Double S are still using a standard 3.9 Y-piece.

Nope. The double **** I mean S has a single y pipe instead of the 3 piece standard fitment. It is a total pain in the arse, because if the manifolds are incorrectly made (like mine) you have to struggle like bloody hell to get the to fit.
