Hi all,

It appears my landie needs a new/replacement/refurbed diesel injection pump.

It's on a Defender 100, pump number is 460 414 099, R509/1.

My mechanic is pulling his hair out after spending a lot of effort getting it ready for its MOT retest to find a puddle of diesel under the engine. :-(

One option explored quickly is to send the pump to be repaired /refurb'd, cost approx 500+vat.

Any other options folks might be kind enough to suggest please?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

Where abouts are you? I have my old td pump lying about, and I am sure many others will have too. I also have the old td turbo - having seen your previous post. :D
Then again - maybe cheaper in the long run to upgrade to 200tdi?

Hi there,

Based in Surrey, sorting out couriers etc shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Is it the same model number?

I know little about Landies other than getting in and driving them...it appears the one I have has a Discovery engine of sorts as the turbo charger, which I replaced, was for/from a Disco engine. Strange....although I guess these things are interchangeable to a point.

So in summary diesel pump could be doable if same model number, how much are you asking for it?

Thanks for your reply.

Cheers

Steve the landie newbie. :)

Sounds like you already have the 200tdi conversion then, so I guess the td pump won't suit. Will check the number tomorrow, just in case.

Where is the urbo on your engine? on the side or on the top? - Can we get a photo of your engine so that we can confirm what engine you have?

Also where is the diesel comming out from? - Is it around the spindles on the top? - If so it can easily be repaired (with the pump on the engine) - much cheeper!

Hi,

I've left my notes at work with the info on it, Derek (the mechanic) did say something like it was leaking from a specific place...will post again in the morning.

Will try and get a picture of the engine but will probably won't be for a few days.

Thanks for all the input so far, most helpful.

Regards

Steve

Hardly likely if he's been quoted £500 for a refurbish one, is it?

just going by the posts on the thread.
if some is quoting him £500 for a refurbished pump they've got to be taking the ****

maybe a picture of the pump/engine would help determine the solution to the problem

Sounds a bit steep. But I'll bet it's close to the going rate from main stealers or greedy independants.

Hi,

As far as I know its not the lift pump its the diesel injection pump, linked to timing belts etc and apparently looks like a bitch to get out. :)

Wish it were and it was only going to cost 21+vat.

Cheers

Thanks for the LR part number for the Bosch model number.

Looking at my notes the leak is coming from around the throttle shaft if that makes sense.

Unsure if this can be fixed in place or if it needs to be ripped out and recond'd.

Thanks very much guys for all of your postings and time. Any other hints or tips greatfully received.

I'll create a new thread for this next question related to waxoyl or sealing the chassis, a friend suggested I get it done to help keep the big green beastie (BGB) in good form.

Thanks

Steve

Have just spoken with with Diesel Bob and it looks like the way to go. Fingers crossed, will update with what happens.
