I changed the cam belt on my Defender a couple of weeks ago and since then I've noticed an increase in diesel clatter.
I'm pretty certain the timing is all correct, I used the proper locking kit and torque wrench to set the timing, I rotated the engine twice and rechecked belt tension and then again to check the the pins would still go in and the marks on the cam pulley lined up.
Performance is unchanged and the increase in noise is only really noticeable on a light throttle just above tick over e.g. 30mph in top gear on a flat road. At higher revs the clatter dissapears and it improves markedly when the engine is thoroughly warm.
Can anyone offer an explanation for the extra noise? have I done something wrong or was the injection/timing "wrong" before?
