I changed the cam belt on my Defender a couple of weeks ago and since then I've noticed an increase in diesel clatter.
I'm pretty certain the timing is all correct, I used the proper locking kit and torque wrench to set the timing, I rotated the engine twice and rechecked belt tension and then again to check the the pins would still go in and the marks on the cam pulley lined up.
Performance is unchanged and the increase in noise is only really noticeable on a light throttle just above tick over e.g. 30mph in top gear on a flat road. At higher revs the clatter dissapears and it improves markedly when the engine is thoroughly warm.
Can anyone offer an explanation for the extra noise? have I done something wrong or was the injection/timing "wrong" before?

my 300 tdi sounds like this, gonna chuck 250 ml of 2 stroke oil in the tank next time i fill up,apparently this works! :D

yep it does work, used it on our disco, now we can almost hear the radio, joking asside it did quieten it quite a bit, takes a little while but you will notice the difference.

how long you been doing this for?? :)

since wev'e owned it. about eight weeks, we started using it on our volvos and it made quite a difference on them. it just helps lubricate the pump etc due to the lowering of the sulpher content in the new eco fuels. it works better than the fuel additives, if you require any more info just pm .hope this is of help,, ron.
