I soon need to be rid of my wife's old TD4. This is the one that was hit my a minicab, set off the airbags, and which the insurance company has demanded is crushed.

Matt from Furious Driving removed a load of bits and I have already taken the transmission and IRD.

Today I had a go at finding and removing every single electronic module from the car. I want to be able to make a "Freelander in a box" so that I can finish off and support the last of the diagnostic protocol work.

So far I removed:-
Engine ECU.
27VT CCU body controller and cabin fuse box.
EWS immo ECU and the pickup coil on the steering lock.
Airbag ECU.
The ABS modulator, which I believe has the ECU built in.
Instrument cluster.
Radio.

I forgot to take the CD changer, must grab it tomorrow.
There is mention in the Haynes manual of a folding mirror ECU but I can't yet find it.

Are there any other modules hidden away on these cars that I have missed? The factory T4 is very fussy about having the complete set.

There is an automatic trans ecu on the auto!!

The mirror ecu if you have folding mirrors is to the left of the passengers feet. Behind the trim IIRC.

Great job! I have a collection of all the non ecu controlled components or those that can be tested stand alone and am making a switch box to test windows, wipers, locks etc.

The 430MHz blipper receiver is on the top of the instrument cluster. Purely an RF receiver, no coding at this point.

If you can't find or haven't got the mirror ecu I can find one for you.
Not sure it is anything complex, might just be a relay or two.

It's an independent mirror controller, same as used in many Ford's and BMW's of the period.
It does have some smarts (logic control to prevent damage to the mirror fold motors), but no communication ability, so works independently of the rest of the vehicle.

If the mirror ECU looks like a relay then I think I already have it.
This morning I found a windows lift ECU on the drivers side A pillar area and grabbed the CD changer.
I hope that there are no ECUs behind the luggage compartment side panels because I haven't time to look in there.
Basically I need to take the rear diff because that's useful spare and then get rid of the rest (which is just a shell now).

slightly off topic, but the new Freelander has an issue that if I use the wiper stalk for a single wipe of the front wipers, the wipers don't return to their park position.
If I switch the wipers on completely then they work normally.
Is this lack of wiper parking something to do with the wiper motor assembly or something else?

There is a park contact inside the wiper motor and it breaks off. The contact is operated by a cam on the motor so that it breaks when wipers aligned to park position. Replacement motor is the answer, contact not easy to replace or obtain. Simple job, under the plastic scuttle at rear of bonnet.
