Diagnostic tools

Hi I have the rsw solutions lead and program but have now got a newer car so it doesn't work on a range rover l322 2008 tdv8 , so thinking about buying a new diagnostic tool . After a quick search I was thinking about the gap iid tool as it seems to have a lot of functionality for the price. What do others think of it and would you recommend it or something similar and similar in price, around the £500 mark. Thanks barry

I've never used a Gap iiD but I've heard they are excellent for diagnosing Land Rover faults.

We have a Gap and it has worked very well for what we have used it for so far and probably already paid for itself.

Ok just to let you know I have taken plunge and ordered a gap iid bt tool from island 4x4 this morning , so should have it by end of the week. I will update when I have given it a try.

ok got gap iid bt tool and must say its fantastic its solved a couple if issues i had by very simply telling me what has failed and when and for what reason. would highly recommend

defiantly i have two other scanners and neither of them have the same functionality as this bit of kit. personally i would say its easier to use than the rsw solutions , but i can't knock the rsw one as it has helped me endlessly in the past

Plus 1 ref the gap iid , also have one and can say it’s a fantastic bit of kit, plus don’t forget the customer service is second to none , Pat has always been extremely helpful

hope ur good, indeed ref the gap iid, mine also paid for itself I think 10 x times over in the first year , plus the awesome help from Pat at gap

great to hear ur keeping well , bless u and indeed the past few months have slowly been getting a lot better, ur so right ref the D3 , keeping me busy , it’s been faultless apart from this recent split turbo hose , just waiting for the new bits to turn up, don’t mind admitting it looks a right so and so to get to , did get a rear lower arm advisory on the last mot , passed apart from them so will get them done sometime this year, but just basic wear and tear seeing there heavy old lumps

plus candy is 15 x this year and keeping well , would be destroyed not having her by my side , she’s still mad as ever, lol

i might even treat myself to one of those long reach Milwaukee 12 volt 3/8 right handed rachet’s , did get an impact wrench last year which made light work of the wheel nuts etc, certainly made life easier that’s for sure

sorry I’m waffling as per usual

My IID has gone wrong.
Unfortunately it's got to go back to Canada to be repaired. I don't know if I can be bothered really, as I use SDD now anyway, which works much better on my FL2.

oh blimey , shame they couldn’t exchange urs with a uk supplier and then let them send it back , would the company u bought it from help u in any way or not interested

know ur very smart but has any of the obd2 pins in the socket opened up at all causing an error

I got it second hand Gary. I have paid for the extended warranty though, but it's got to go back to be sorted.

I'm in no rush Gary. Like I said, I use SDD now, as the IID is very limited on the FL2 anyway.

ah I didn’t realise that with regards to limitations , must admit bought a Autel AP200 a little while back , just keep in the glove box in case I need to read the codes whilst out and about

alas haven’t used the SDD so don’t know how much detail it provides

If I'd realised the limitations of the IID on the FL2, I'd have never bought another one. It's basically a posh code reader, with some CCF modification capabilities.
It could probably program various modules too, if Gap could be bothered to write the software they've been promising for a decade, but alas nothing has been released for the IID on the FL2 for years, it can't even put the clock on the dash, or add auto hold on the brakes, both of which I'd really like.

SDD is JLR dealer diagnostic software, so can access and program every module on later JLR vehicles, although it take some getting used to the way it works.

I have an Icarsoft I930 in the glove box, which is quick and easy to use at the side of the road if necessary.
