Freelander 1. 2.00 TD4, 2006. Warning light with exlamation comes back and forth
No codes coming up. Patients symptoms.

1) starts. And occasions then dies out.
2) lack of power sometimes under accelerating
3) bit of a miss fire? Again sometimes.
4) smokes like she was on 200 a day when under pressure, hard acceleration, going up a steep hill.
. Again sometimes.
5) out of gear and floor throttle usually no issues. But occastionslly all the above.

ALL THE "Sometimes" USUALLY HAPPEN AT SAME TIME.

Sometimes getting more regular. Has been going on about 3 weeks.

From research on here and other places I am thinking/hoping fuel filter and low pressure fuel pump at the rear?. Opinions greatly appreciated...

Well new filter is cheap, and fuel pumps don't last forever, so I would say you are on the right tracks.

Lack of power and smoke could be a loose/split boost pipe.

Other things to check besides the filter and LP pump are the O rings on the high pressure pump. These wear over time also. Cheap repair kits online.

If you have decent diagnostics you should be able to see the high and low fuel pressures.

With 'no codes', are you sure the diagnostic equipment is correctly connecting to the LR protocol?

There are few devices that read the LR correctly.

Could be turbo. Check all the vaccum hoses, replace the turbo control solenoid. Made mine ALOT better, my symptoms not as severe as yours but I had the black smoke under heavy load, that's gone now.

+ check that the fuel-rail-sensor plug/socket pins are clean 'n totally free of corrosion ..

a code should def. register if that warning light illuminates .. i would think.

.

Thanks all. Going to start with Filter and LP Fuel pump. If that doesn't work, I will look at the turbo hoses for leaks, After that a gallon of petrol and a box of swan vesta I think :(

Thing with code, its never on when I get her home. Light goes out and is intermittent. Proper Diag Kit , that has worked before for my landys. If I could get the light to stay one, but will also check the flows when I am testing again.

A word of warning. Don't be tempted to by those cheap pumps from Ebay, as they're garbage. Only fit genuine or OE pumps and filters.

If the engine light has lit once, there should be a code stored to read. This will direct you better than changing parts randomly.
