I really want to get a 90...nothing special, just tidy and sound to use as an every day drive. I wont be doing massive mileage....maybe 20 a day and all on road and farm tracks.

I dont have the skills or knowledge to deal with anything needing work but hope to pick up maintenance and bits as I go along so my question is...is it possible to get something that is suitable for about £3k or am I being unrealistic?

Cheers Storm99......If I can get one for half that there is a chance I can get it before xmas then! :eek: Mind you I guess it depends what you can rob off someone for a tin pot starlet!

Where is best to look for them? Ebay, Autotrader, specialist sites? Also is there any benefit to buying an ex farm vehicle? Wondered if mentioning it to the farmer i rent a field from might be of some use?
 
I've bought about 25 from ebay (4 for myself) and only once had a problem, gearbox went after 300 miles...i've never paid more than 2 grand but i dont rush into buying, take your time. I got a nice little 90 for a good price...needs a bit of tarting up but the important bits, chassis and engine are sound, ive done 1500 miles in the month ive had it. Theres an issue with reverse but i was aware of that.

I looked on autotrader too but i like the auction format of ebay.

Ex farm vehicles are often low mileage but poorly maintained...but you may get lucky if its been stored in a barn a lot out of the weather.

Ask loads of questions on ebay, you wont get a perfect 90 but you will find one that suits your abilities and take it from there...I got help from folks here when i wasn't sure...thats whats good about the forum. I will have a hunt see what i can find, at work all evening/night so loads of time!!

I am in no hurry so happy to wait for the right one...also really dont mind if it needs a lot of tarting up if mechanically sound as they are the kind of things I cand do/have done as and when I have the cash.... DIngs and dents and multi coloured paint work all add to the charm :)
 
Series, 90/110 and Defender prices seem to be through the roof at the moment. You might want to increase your budget a bit to around £4k to give yourself more options.
 
Take your time. I've been looking for a couple of months and whilst I'm impatient I'm not going to rush into buying something just because it's either cheap or available.

Because I started looking when we had a little snow I assumed the high prices were due to that, but I think it's just where 90's are at the moment and if you've not had one before it's a whole new mentality - I went to a place today that had a truck cab for £3.5k and if it was a normal car you'd have ran off screaming but because it's a "working vehicle" it's just how it is - weird but I think you slowly get used to it.
 
I must be getting some bargains then.. 1250 each for these two...1340 for the one on my avatar..
