Hi I have just seen this on face book thought it was worth posting just to make Defender owners aware that theives appear to have been operating in the North East over the week end taking Defender parts.
Do you own a Land Rover Defender? Police are advising owners to take extra care of their vehicles after thieves stripped body parts from two Defenders the night before last.
Sometime during Sunday night, 28th December or early on Monday morning thieves targeted a Defender parked outside its owners home in Gordon Terrace, Wolsingham and a similar vehicle parked in a barn at a farm in Stanhope.
In the first incident they removed the drivers door and the front headlights, but the items were left at the scene suggesting they may have been disturbed before they could strip other parts from the vehicle.
At the farm in Stanhope, situated just off the A689 they managed to remove and escape with the bonnet, the driver and front passenger doors and the wing mirrors. This theft is thought to have happened sometime between 4am and 10.45am, when the owner realised what had happened and informed police.
Police suspect the thieves are deliberately targeting Land Rover Defenders for any parts of the vehicle which can be removed and sold on.
If you own a Defender please check your security arrangements and do all you can to secure the vehicle, said Det Con Tony Kent of the serious crime team in Crook.
The thieves have clearly identified a market for these items, especially the doors. We are making enquiries in the area and would like to hear from anyone who might have heard of these vehicle parts being offered for sale.
