Anyone got starter motor woes? Every time I wade our local ford to take a shortcut, I run the risk that a few days later, if it's parked up and not used till the next weekend, that the starter motor solenoid on my 110 TD5 won't operate and turn over. Give it a clonk with a hammer and it's OK, starts and then keeps starting. Anyone got a cure? I was wondering if fitting an extended breather to the starter motor would help? Anyone know of a lubricant worth squirting up the breather tube that might prevent it?

When I took the starter off my TD5 Disco the two little tubes that were supposed to be there proved to be as much use as a chocolate teapot.
My attitude is either seal the feck out of it or keep away from water.
Or invent your own breather system and fit it.
Perhaps some of the problem is condensation, I don't have much of an idea this!;)

have a gander
