Defender Dash console lights gone out

I have a 1989 defender and the dash console lights have stopped working. the battery light, fuel light and high beam light work, just not the lighting for the speedo, fuel gauge and volts are not working.

also for some reason when I turn on my factory external lights, the rear spot light turns on too.

Any ideas what has happened and where I can locate the fuse for the dash?

Sounds like your 'Fender has been subjected to a kerbside elektrician. Follow the wires with a multi-meter and see where they lead, take out the bulbs and test to isolate first.

Check the fuse for the dash illumination. If it's OK, pull the dash and check for voltage on the white/red. Not sure what you mean about the "factory external lights"?

Factory external lights are the head lights, side lights, rear brake, rear side lights, reverse light and fog light

Is the fuse in the driver cabin, or are they in the engine bay?

should be in the panel behind the gear stick - usually has a little knob on it to unscrew it, and a notice about the use of the diff-lock.

Silly question, do your indicators work? I have this problem at the moment, suddenly my dash goes dark, gauges stop working and turns out indicators are on the same feed. I jiggle the wires coming into the fusebox and it fixes it, still yet to find the problem. IIrc, the feed is the solid green wire.

Yes indicators work fine. All lights work, except for the dash speedo, fuel gauge and voltage gauge
