Hi,
I've just completed a head gasket change on my 1999 defender TD5. Everything has been connected back up but the engine won't start. I purged the fuel system ( ignition on and pumping the accelerator ) twice, and I've tested the glow plug relay and the fuses, which are working fine. I get the glow plug light on the dash, which stays illuminated for about 5 seconds.
Before carrying out the work, the engine started on the button every time, I can't work out why it won't start. Has anyone had a similar situation or heard of one? Any help, advice would be much appreciated.

Gary.

Are you getting fuel to the injectors ? even to the fuel filter ?
Air locks in the fuel system are not unknown ...

Does the fuel pump run on for a long time after you switch on the ignition?

If so, it is probably an air in fuel issue.

Hi, not sure, when I purged the fuel I could hear fuel around the fuel pressure regulator, so I assumed fuel was getting through.

Is the battery fully charged?
I have had to purge cycle a D2 TD5 quite a few times after changing the fuel pump.

Did it run OK before the HG failed?

Cheers

It ran fine before I changed the HG. I purged it twice but maybe that isn't enough.
