Swap the wires over between the temp and fuel and see if it's the same.hi all , the fuel gauge on my 90 v8 3.5 1990 seems to wander all over the place , one min it reads half full then empty ,then quater full - back to empty:doh:
anyone think the graduations on the sender could be worn between half and empty

If the gauge is faulty then the temp will be erratic, if sender faulty then the temp ok (actually reading fuel) and the fuel will be erratic.
If that makes any sense/.
