Hi I have a noise coming from my landy when driving along, like a metal jangling noise like something is loose, I have recently changed all oils and seems worse since I did that? front prop ujs were worn so replaced both at same time as doing oils. checked back prop and was no play in it, drivers side cv joint is worn and clicking on full lock, the noise gets worse when you increase your speed and is constantly there at 30-40mph upwards, also if I put vehicle in 2nd and drive along steady and press accelerator down and off quick the noise is evident? anyone had anything simaler?

cheers lee

Does it make the noise when travelling in neutral? Is it revs dependant?

It might be something loose that resonates when the Landy vibrates at a certain frequency.

I've a horrible clanky, jangly sound at any speed that is being looked at this week. The garage has changed the ujs and rear wheel bearings. Shall find out if it is sorted tomorrow. I have also changed all oils apart from Transfer box.

Hi the noise is at its worst at 30-40 mph when I go above this speed it goes away? if I go over bumps you can hear it loose jingling about, sounds like it is coming from front drivers side wheel which has the badly worn cv joint? just wondering if its broke up and the ball bearings have come out? does it in neutral if I can get it up to that speed free wheeling down hill.

Check track rod hasn't bent onto the rod gaurd sat on the diff. It can be just touching and rattle occasionally or under load and off load etc.
You've said there's a warn cv on that corner, why don't you change it and see if that fixes the problem? Bit of common sense ain't it lol?

A nice "bump" would be better so people who hasn't seen the thread until now like myself will want to help and not just laugh at your problems.

ok I catch yr drift lol and yeah I was going to replace the cv joint obviously but just wanted to share the problem to see if anyone could offer advice on it

Hi everyone well I have just done the cv joint and rd tested and the noise is still there not improved at all checked brake shields they are ok and not loose? the track rod end bar is bent I noticed could this be the cause?

thanks lee

If its bent out of shape can it be bent back do you know?
it can but your tracking will be out

I straighten mine as they take heavy offroad use I keep bending them anyway ( no funds for sumo bars yet ) but if yours is mainly road then change it its only £25 with ends

I could hear a tinny rattle as I drove along, and it turned out to be the handle of my Hi Lift jack clattering around. The rubber handle keeper had dropped allowing the tubular handle to rattle in the socket. This was after I'd spent quite a while jacking the car up and rotating the wheels etc. trying to locate the source of the sound.

You were right maxyman the track rod bar which is bent is rattling against the L bracket just underneath it, I put a thin piece of card under it and went for a drive and noise is not there!

Cheers lee
