thats steernig box tie bar ,never seen one break before ,when fitting new so that you support and not pull box ,nip all bolts up first then tighten fully if you tighten bolts on box then nut you may stress box

It's cast iron so difficult and don't bodge critical components.

forged steel ,cast iron would snap before it was bolted up

Wrong it is cast steel very weldable. not all casting are cast iron. Cast iron wont stand up to impact.
