Hello, I have a problem with the clutch on a land rover defender 110 td5.

I have just taken out the gearbox and had it all rebuilt.

I renewed the clutch as the box was down. I also renewed the slave cylinder and a new slave cylinder push rod. I also got all new clips and bush for the clutch fork.

I put the gearbox back and was testing it before bolting in all the seats and floor etc. I started the vehicle and put it in 2wd and tried to select gear but I would let me select gear. The problem seems to be the clutch not clearing to allow it to get into gear. When you try to put in gear the vehicle lurches forward. Also when the transfer box is in natural in can select the gears.

There is no air in the system and have bled it with power bleeder etc. I have also adjusted the master cylinder to allow for more travel and still cannot select any gears with engine running.

Anyone got any ideas??

Thanks

Anyway probs mistake on the 2wd as motor at work. So anyone any idea apart from saying it not got 2wd?
Thanks

All defenders are perminant 4wd with the drive going through a centre diff so the actual drive can go to the front axle, rear or both. Putting it into difflock locks the centre diff so the drive goes equally to the front and back no matter what the wheels are doing.

It does sound like the clutch is binding but what you do about it or why on a TD5 I have no idea. Someone will be along that does in a bit.

Missed what stuff? :D

You can see um a mile off, he will take his answer and #### off. The OP hasn't read the forum or searched.

Still no introduction in the appropriate section either.

Bollocks i can't be arsed.

Right well I'm just getting advice on the issue as I don't own it I'm just keeping it from being scrapped!

Well, it sounds like you've done summat wrong! Is it a damped friction plate or a solid one? Is it a DMF or not? Not sure on them but the "boss" doesn't always go gearbox side;) I'll just go with the "it sounds like you've screwed up" option:D
