Good day to all and thanks for reading this. I tow a twin axled caravan of which the all up weight comes in around 2 tons. I have been offered a 2015 Defender 110 at a very good price (tempting in itself) I just wondered if that 2.2 diesel which Ford fit to their Transits is really man enough for the job? At present I am spoilt really as I tow with 4.4 TDV8 Range Rover, which puts out so much torque for towing I keep having to check the mirror just to re assure myself that I haven't forgotten to hitch it to the car, as the towing is effortless for TDV8. I have seen plenty of other big heavy vans being pulled by Ford Transits seemingly without the problem of a lack of power. Just wondered if anybody on the forum here has any experience of the Ford 2.2?
Thanks

yep, just make sure it's had the clutch update and transmission output shaft fixed. There was issues with them

The 2.2 lacks torque for towing (well, according to some) but a remap makes all the difference.

It’s never going to be a 4.4 litre Range Rover but after a stage 1 remap (£2-300) it will do it fine.

Max torque at 2000 rpm is 360Nm. I recall JLR's advertising blurb stating this was the highest torque engine ever fitted as standard in defenders. I understand that the Puma defenders were available with standard or heavy duty suspension. The heavy duty version having a higher Gross Train Weight, the latter being of advantage for a heavy trailer / caravan.

Well, that makes a mockery of what l was told.
So the 2.2 should be fine for towing, particularly with a mild remap.
