I have a bit of a dilemma....
The father in law a devoted Land Rover fanatic, is brain washing me
into buying a second hand Range Rover, which though I Love I am not
too convinced about, and maybe think that a BMW 5 series would be a
better choice.

The moral of the story is that I have two kids and when we move the
house seems to come with us, hence boot space always seems not to be
enough. But than I now have a small car with a small boot.

The thing that scares me most of having a Range are the running costs,
which seems to be double those of a BMW 5 series (so I hear this
includes: petrol, insurance and services). Are they though?
The good things are the boot space, the fact that my kids get a bit
car sick and being seating in a high position helps, the comfort and
what else???

Also I hear that the BMW 5 series is safer than the Range rover
(1998-2000 model) is it?
Would you really reduce the costs considerably is you do covert it to
LPG (like the old boy, claims)?

Though choice especially when I do not know, how to the get the
facts...
If someone out there can help it would be nice.

My budget is £ 20,000 (MAX) and I am looking at: either a Range Rover
4.6HSE or a BMW 535i... maybe I should be looking at something else as
well??

Thank you.

Yes they are great and yes lpg halves the running costs, but you simply
don't need a Range Rover. Get the BMW or similar.

I would go with the BMW. Look at jdpower.com and see that older model Range
Rovers are very unreliable. The jury is still out on the new re-designed
models.

I agree with DC - go with the Beemer

I'm about to 'give away' my RR 4.0 as I'm tired of reliability and
quality issues. LR Dealers in the UK are pretty poor too (expensive
and incompetent)
