Hello all,

All in the title really, I've had a few exhaust parts (mainly with blue labels), and while very cheap they don't seem to last me more than a year.

I'm not convinced I want to fork out on a stainless steel system as I'm likely to break it or change it anyway.

Also, the ancillaries like hangers, bolts etc from Paddocks seem to rot away pretty quickly in winter with any sort of use...

Is there a good source of reasonable quality exhaust parts? Or should I bite the bullet and get a stainless steel straight-thru made?

D

Similar dilemma earlier this year. I decided to go for a double s system. Only 4 months old so can't comment on durability but must suggested they are good for a few years. The downside is that the flanges are not stainless but from what I heard about others, they still last a good numb of years.
I did get a price of a new full custom made stainless but the cost was around £500 so no go.

I've got a stainless one from double S which is probably cost somewhere in the middle of britpart and a custom stainless job. Its lasted for 6 years so far and although its covered in rust, it seems to be still ok (famous last words). I don't think its the best quality stainless - I didn't expect to rust so badly - but I'm guessing it cost less than all the britpart ones I would have put on in the same time.

There are a few companies around Hebden who manufacture pipework for the food industry, so go out and get yourself a length of Dairy Pipe, bend it up and take it to them for TIG welding! :)

Have you spoken to Copley Motors for a ready-made system? :D

Funny, I moved away from there over 25 years ago, and seem to know more about what's available in the area than Mr dominicbeesley does!

Thanks oldseadog

I don't want a custom system - though I do need it a bit "odd" as the exhaust manifold is a defender one.

Copley! If you show them a series motor they look at you all funny, they've been so rude the last couple of times I've been in there I wouldn't give them my cash.

The other option is Steve Parker but that's silly money. I just want standard pipes and hangers that don't rot away to nothing as soon as there's salt on the road...

Sorry to hear that!

Copley used to be really good when I was down there with my Series!

Presumably you would get a decent service from Simmonites?

There used to be a motor shop on Halifax Road going into Tod, where they would get any part for anything ... the more obscure the better, as Dave loved a challenge, but I don't know if he is still there!

Have you tried Pitstop in Tod? 123 Halifax Rd, Todmorden 01706 818839 which might be the same place?

I don't really want a garage, I'll be fitting (and maybe cutting and welding myself). Is more a case of where to get decent quality fittings - especially the ancillaries like hangers, nuts and bolts.

I just got a new hanger from Paddocks, it's in a blue packet so it will probably rot away in 6 months.

For now, I've discovered that I had a Britpart intermediate pipe (which I think is the bit I most need) in the garage already. I'll put all the crap together this aft to get me through until later this year....I need to drive to Oxford on Wednesday and its blowing like a bugger at the moment...

Now, does a Defender / 90 exhaust system fit an 88? It might be easier and better - I think they're a little wider but not sily, but I don't know if they have all the right bends to go round an older chassis?
