Dead freelander!!!!!

Hi all,
I need some advice please,I've been checking to see why my parking sensors are not working and in the process pulled a fuse from drivers side fuse box and put it back in and now im not getting anything from the instrument cluster

,the only thing that seems to work is the clock,the thing is that the car is open and the rear window is down so cant lock the car, so here i am with egg on my face again

, where can i start?

Try checking the engine bay fuses - the fuse for the interior fuse box might have blown...just a hunch..good luck

I tried swapping the main relay (r4) with fuel pump relay(r1) to see if that would work? but no joy

i checked a few fuses that i thought would be in connection with the course noot i've checked battery connection thats ok then disconnected it and left it for 20 mins just put it back on and still with no joy

i am absolutely at a lost as to what has happened the thing is that after i had done it i managed to get the big connector for the rear light and parking sensors apart and it was all corroded inside

sods law,its ok at the moment because its sunny but if it starts raining like it did yesterday i'll be
f----ed and i can't lock the rear doors and rear window because the central locking isn't working

and to make things even worse the bl--dy clock has stopped working aswell :dizzy:haha you gotta laugh. anyway if you have any ideas i can have a go at im willing to try. but seriously lads always remember ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????no its gone!

You need to work your way from the battery to the interior fuse box with a multimeter, checking for power at each side of each junction, fuse and relay. As mentioned above, the engine bay fuses are likely to be the culprit - changing relays will only work if there's power getting to them!

There's a bunch of 60 and 80 amp fuses in that picture, plus what looks like a 150A or higher "mega" fuse immediately connected to the battery cable. You need to start from that fuse, then check the 60 and 80 amp fuses and so on. You can either just check for continuity across them or ideally check for voltage from each side of each fuse to a suitable earth.

If they're all good, start checking the green 40A fuses. You don't need to remove them -they have pin holes that allow you to test them with a multimeter probe without taking them out. Be systematic about it and you'll find where you've lost power.

I'm going to have a go at that but before i do i'm just going to explain what i done to see if anyone has had this before.
Reet i was doing checks on the parking sensors and decided to check if it was the fuse so pulled fuse F24 from under drivers side fuse box and put it back ,fair enough nothing then i had the bright idea of pulling fuse F12 audio system and when i was putting it back there was a little flash and the instrument lights started to go crazy with the lights flashing on and off and the temp pin moving up and down then everything just died, then i turn the ignition off and then back on this time just a long beep and the next time i turn the key absolutely nothing

so there we go, if anyone has done this then plz let me no. just to narrow my search down.
If i cant find and rectify the fault then i will have to wait until tues to phone an auto electrician

Ouch. Sounds like something has fried on the instrument pack or one of the ECUs.... Fingers crossed it's neither of those!

Well i've checked all fuses and relays in the engine compartment for continuity now on to passenger fusebox

it doesn't look good though i cant believe i done that in the first place i remember thinking should i pull the negitive off the battery before i do this

i'm soooooooooooooo annoyed at myself.

Still no luck lads

I've checked every fuse i can think of and she's still dead as a door nail,absolutely nothing not a tick or tock, so thats my knowledge spent not that i had much to start with

the only thing i can do now is ring the sparky on tues and hope he can come to me

i really cant believe my luck

i dont know what else to do or check? it wouldn't have drained the battery would it ? i've got a bad feeling about this one

if it was the ecu would it just be a case of swapping the unit over? surely the ecu has protection?were in the car can i take a power reading from?the car has been a pleasure to work on over the years but things like this go straight over my head :hippie:anyway everyday's a school day
so i wan't be doing that again

I would check the battery - could be as simple as a flat!

Or you've blown another fuse in the passenger compartment fuse box which you might not have checked. There's at least one which does a permanent live feed.

But I'd check the battery first.

After all the checks i done yesterday the only thing that i didn't check was the battery

so after a sleepless night i got up to see if i could get a auto sparky arranged for tues and as i was looking i thought i'll see if anyone has replied to my post and there you were you little beauty td4van with the most obvious but simplist answer so got my multimeter out and checked the battery :dance:

0.2v so rang my mother to bring her car so i could jump start
and hay presto the thing came to life again:smokin: so a big "THANK YOU" to all on landyzone for your advise and in my case a bigger "THANK YOU " to td4van for stating to obvious.

Glad to help and glad you got it all sorted!

When the battery does go flat it the car does weird and wonderful things - guess how I found out?

Have you fixed the other issues?

na mate ,
There's a big connecting block for the rear lights/ parking sensors and some of the pins were corroded so i tried to clean them up best i could but no joy ?i was actually going to cut the block off and use a chock block to connect the wires but thought better of it as i'm selling my car at the mo and trying to sort out the little issues?

but it is what it is so heyho, anyway your reply saved me a bit of cash so if i ever bump into you remind me to buy you a pint
