Deepest Darkest...
Well, I've just lost 3hrs of my life...o_O

Yesterday thought I'd do the right thing and replace all gauge and warning light bulbs with new, I should have known better

Green LED gauge bulbs in and 'on', wonderful clean constant green across the gauges :)

Only the battery light 'on' at warning lights. Have I dislodged a cable whilst changing bulbs...lots of searching, checking connectors/terminals tightness...lots of scratched & blooded skin. Nope all okay there. So out with the DVM for continuity tests...

The little black 1.2w bulb holders have test points in the housing, only two bulbs gave continuity, the rest open cct:( So out with all the bulbs. What I noticed is the following...

  1. the 1.2w bulbs do not always make clean/correct contact with the inner connectors - remove bulb, re-align bulb wire and re-fit.
  2. The bulb holder tangs need to be raised ~20degs to make proper contact with the PCB cct
  3. Bulb holder tangs also need to be cleaned with 800grade
  4. All the cct PCB contact areas were dirty and causing complete open cct  so cleaned back with 800grade [lightly use 800 as 1200 clogs up], then wipe everything clean with methylated spirit as this will not damage the PCB coating [contact cleaner would not break through the thin film of dark/mild oxidisation]
  5. re-fit bulbs, plug in rear connectors, turn on ignition and...Houston, we have lift off! All bulbs now working :)
So thought it useful to leave this here should others have similar problem/s - even though the tangs and PCB ccts look clean, they're not and have a thin oxidised film which needs very gently cleaning off.

Now for a coffee and re-fit dash panel...

I think that Landy's do not like LED's, always questions on here about them. Did the same as you but in the end gave up with them and went back to standard Only the one in my temperature gauge left which still nice and bright after seven years/ish .

@tottot , as long as there's a clean/stable 12v and the LED's are not el-cheapo Chinese jobbies, LED's in the gauges will work. I've used std 1.2w cap less bulbs for the warning lights - here the existing bulbs were quite possibly 37 year old originals and in varying states of dullness, so out with the old, in with the new...and they're much better ;)

ps just thinking about this, I'm sure the thorough clean up of all contacts & the PCB circuit has mucho' helped too...

what warning lights do oyu you have?
I jsut just have battery, and the oil light and indicators, headlights and the trailer
;)

From memory...Oil, Battery, Indicators, Side Lights [Green] Headlights [Blue], Fog Light, Glow Plug, Diff Lock. Let me check trow morning and report back.

@flat & @Hicap phill , I've bought new late series III door bottoms from Paintman with new antiburst handles and locks. The old ones were tired and bubbling along the bottoms. They're still quite useable if you know anyone who'd like them, going FOC :)

Iv not long had my doors on. Was meant to be temporary till I repaired my original windup window doors. That’s a few years ago:eek:

i could do with some for the 88 inch - are they repairable?
Bear in mind I repaired my Sankey trailer with about a million kg of welding wire :D

Yes, very repairable. They're bubbled along the bottom, the driver's worse than the passenger + one has 'hidden' tin worm behind where the door handle sits. Apart from this they're okay + come complete with new sound deadening already fitted!

Shall I reserve them...?
