Like most I suppose, my 1985 LR has a crack on the dash. It was there when I got it and before I screwed a phone holder in place of the ash tray. I was thinking of making a tight fitting cover/plate/thing, to hide it. Not a big problem really, was going to be a rainy day fix to get me away from another project I'm working on for an afternoon.
My idea was to fix something that covered both sides of the apperture and wrapped around under. This could be a matched colour or a deliberatly different colour. Might even use it to make the phone holder better or even run it up to the vents, not sure yet, but just wanted to cover it. Had a look around, can't seem to find a replacement one, that would be nice
Anyone else had a good idea to fix this or know if there's somewhere to get a replacement. I'd like to keep things original if I can.

The top bit seems easy to recover. Ive not personally done it, but a (real life) friend did his a couple of months ago without any real bother.

I've heard of people repairing the crack with glue etc but not sure if that will work as the foam inside expands and the pressure is too great. That's why I was thinking of just covering that area with something hard, plastic, brass, I don't know yet, still thinking.

I’ve got the same. I was going to leave it.
yeah, it's not on my big list of things to do that's for sure, just a distraction. Everytime I do photos for insurance I think, 'wish I could fix that crack'. everything is original 1985 county, I'll probably live with it but never know, there may be something easy I can do.

Buy some vinyl fabric, or pleather, some spray adhesive and redo it it all. That's my plan in spring/summer anyway.

You used to be able to get a 'vinyl filler', worked it in and used a texture pad to give it the finish - can't remember what it was called or anything ... getting old and forgetful ...
