Hi guys,

I have looked in search but there are so many different faults. I have two lights (red ) showing and one does not appear to show in either the hand book or the haynes manual, it is a black circle with squares round the edge and a black thermometer in the middle ( guessing its water of some sort). The other is the top P brake light between battery and indicator lights, i have checked the fluid level and all the brakes are new. tried to upload photo but must be doing it wrong.

The symbol you describe is gearbox / transfer box temperature, but i didn't think defenders had temp sensors on the box.
search around the box and transfer box for a temp sender, it will not be higher up the box than the filler level plug do don't confuse it with diff lock switch or reversing light switch. if you find one disconnect the wire to see if the light goes out if it does chances are the sender is knackered if not the wire to it is shorted out. if no sensor is found then either there is a wiring short or an earth fault to the panel lights and that light is earthing everything else - hence it being lit.
