I want to get a dash cam for when i'm green laning and off roading but also to use on my 80 mile a day commute.

You really can't believe some of the things that happen on the roads... did they really just do that type of thing!

So, any recommendations on a decent one to buy. i want it to be cheap, but i want it to work.

I'm hoping there is a good balance that i can find between cost and function.

Cheers

A mount for your iPhone is probably the cheapest option. Assuming you have one. The video quality is excellent.

Or get an old go pro 2. They're cheap now days. To be honest if you want good video you need to mount it outside. Videos shot through a dirty windscreen look lame.

Dash cams loop.. iPhone would just fill up..

I've got a G1WH in my Disco and my Golf. Just over £30 and I really couldn't be happier. One of the few cheap ones worth buying.

I've used mine whilst driving and also green laning. They use a suction mount which is really sturdy, so no chance of shaky video.

Record in 1080p, take a micro SD card, record in loops and run off the 12v socket. It's fairly small too, you can't see mine behind the mirror in the Discovery.

This is a good review of the older model (G1W). Mine has a wider angle lens and none of the tacky chrome. Overall it's largely the same to give you an idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIfxRNddzA0

I take it you've watched some of the Russian car crash videos with dash cams? :D

Also I've done quite a bit of reading up on dash cams so any questions, please ask!

I've got one of these - Redirect Notice

Blackstrap can testify to the video quality as I've shared one or two of my videos from landing days out with him. Got a 32 GB which will do most of a days landing if there isn't too much road work. Can be configured to overwrite on loop or not.

Caught a Golf doing a stupid overtake on it one night - surprising good in the dark too. I like the dock feature - I've a dock in my daily driver and another in the Rangie - just swap the camera between the two of them.....was about £130 all in....

I was given one of these for Christmas, and so far can't fault it, with a 32gb card I get around 5 hours of history (records over itself once the card fills up) which is plenty.

Here is some footage filmed with it last weekend at a pay and play...

Youtube WARNING: contains lots of colourful language!

Depends how much space you've got innit.

I filmed a 3 day trip around scotland on my iPhone last month. Delete the porn and candy crush and you're good to go. I personally think the way the handle colour rivals most other products out there.

Just wondering, have been looking at those chinky mirror things that do Bluetooth phone, sat nav,and rear view camera, but haven't seen one with dash cam too, something you can do????

Can ask
