Damn oil leaks, stained drives, and noise paranoia :(

So, a quick dash this weekend to see the oldies (500 mile round trip), and I leave oil on my dads drive - he's not happy !

Its not the cyclone, I don't think its the head (although its damp at the join, drivers side), so that leaves vac pump, oil cooler pipes, filter housing to head, filter, sump gasket,

Time for a clean off and recheck, just before its needed for another 500 mile trip over christmas.

Now I know its leaking (more than 150k motor should), I can now hear strange clattery noises that are intermittent (or intermittent in my head). Maybe my brain is loose...... maybe shaken loose by me falling down the steps at dads while sober!

When stopped and turned off, its only 4 or 5 drips, so hopefully not too major a leak !

Brake cleaner is excellent at cleaning the oil off your engine and the driveway, rocker gaskets favourite for oil leaks from the top end and if its a 200 get the little D pieces as well, costs pennies.

I left the oil marks on his drive as an early christmas gift :)

Its a 300 - new rocker gasket, cyclone o ring, and oil cooler pipes. Its lower than the head gasket I think, hopefully I can get underneath later in the week!

I love brake cleaner - dissipates the oil and dries off all by itself :)

bell housing is worth a look at.
its further forward than that - drivers side for sure, hopefully the nice boss at work will let me put it on a ramp at lunch (however since the parts bloke nearly lost his eye working on his own car at lunch the other day, its doubtful)

Being a tight wad I always fit britpart filters on my 200s and almost without exception they tend to dribble a bit, but not enough to make a mess but theres they are always damp.
Oil cooler hoses can sweat at the crimped joints and the pipe connections to the rad can weep and the oil runs back down the bottom pipe and drops down the drivers side front of the engine, it doesnt make it to the engine but you think its leaking from the motor.

Sumps are paper thin, tissue paper thin, any rust and it gets through very easily.
Look for repairs if not owned from new and replace quickly if weeping. Mine burst just as i parked it for replacement.

Back of timing cover just above sump gasket on drivers side, mine had a slight leak there once, for quickness cleaned well and filled a small area with silicon.

Mine also does turds on the drive:p
