Hello all,
I've been searching the forums and youtube etc to find examples of this common situation but not quite able to fully scratch that itch..can anyone recall a thread that details my quest? To wit, I would like to remove the top from my ' 91 D90 and convert it to a semi pick-up set up. I have a pick up top without the lower side and rear window that I want to use as a" hard bimini top" I want to support the top with a hoop/ seat belt bracket to be fabricated and then sew up a "fume block " rear window panel to suspend from said top.
a couple of questions for the learned folk of the landyzone:
When I remove the original roof will I be left with an unconnected upper door seal rubber? I 've seen the exmoor bits that are installed to support a full soft top but think this won't really suit my situation as I will be fitting that pick up top Am I correct that I'll need my new fangled top support/seat belt bar to accommodate a door seal? Has anyone ever seen a mod like this? Any suggestions gratefully received!

I’m unsure if what is needed is a combination of goal posts and front hoop as well as vertical drain channel . The thinking being that my top will serve as the over door channel. But then where Does the door seal fit onto ? Anyone here ever seen photos of such ?

Further investigation of exmoor’s offerings led me to this example. Wondering if any aficionados on the Lzone have ever fitted one?

Found the answer to my query about how/where the upper door seals attach after even further inspection of exmoor’s site (key to success-hitting the ‘load more products’ button 😏).

We've been watching breathlessly as you undertake your voyage of discovery.

And ultimately the closest example is the heavy duty double front hoop from exmoney with the seat belt mount-just not as tall as they make them. I’ll try to weld mine with a panel connecting the two vertical tubes such that the seats will not be visible from the side view

I like that, not as good as one big tube for full roll protection, but better than one standard one.

You could go the whole hog and fit a Safety Devices welded to chassis roll cage. I have one on my Ninety softop, they're very good and superbly practical.

I’ll check out the safety devices roll cage but as my primary use for this 90 is ferrying me to the beach and back I think it’s overkill. I’m not likely to hit speeds past 60 nor go off-road. TBH, after turning 80 my need for speed has diminished considerably (along with my eyesight 😂).
