Hi!

I've had my Discovery 4.0 V8 2000 for almost three years and loved every minute with it. Yesterday was the first time I had to have it towed. A small part of me died.

Two days ago, I drove to a client without problems. Two hours later, I couldn't start. It cranked, but did not start up. Using my UltraGauge, I checked the engine speed, but it remained zero. I'm not sure how trustworthy the UltraGauge is for this by the way.

Called the autoparts store and ordered a CPS. It arrived yesterday, but wasn't the right one.
Had the car towed home so I could check some things.

-Fuel pump and relay are ok
-Main relay is ok and there's power at fuse 1, 2 and 12 in the engine compartiment
-Ignition relay is ok and there's power at fuse 14 in the interior fuse box
-Inertia switch is ok
-Immobiliser led does not flash
-No DTC's

No spark though and no signal to fuel pump relay. I still want to change the CPS if I can get my hands on one, but the fact that the ECM does not ground the fuel pump relay and does not create a spark, makes me think the CPS is not guilty. Simply because the moment the ignition is turned on, the CPS doesn't do anything yet, but still the fuel pump relay is not grounded.

Am I overlooking something?
I think I've read every topic on every forum on the internet for the last 24 hours and I've learned a lot, but I'm not there yet.
Do I need a reset for the ECM or BCU?

I'm desperate :(

My alternator is a little weak so every 4-5 weeks I have to charge the battery. You can hear it getting too weak in the last couple of starts, but that wasn't the case just yet. I did charge it when I got the car home and it gave 12,4V.
I didn't try to jump start it yet, but I tried now (with a running engine), but sadly, no difference.

I do get a P0600 now that comes back after clearing. It's a transmission code, that I know, but could it have something to do with the starting problem?

Edit: I know I have to change the alternator, I even have a new one and a belt lying around. Just no time yet 😬

Does anyone happen to know what the starting conditions are for a V8? Which sensors should have which values and all that?

Volvo for example has a how-to on what you should check in case of a no-start. Pretty handy.

P0600 has nothing to do with starting, it's a CAN bus code would affect gear change on autos, make sure there is power to the main relay R9 and swap it with R8 for test

The main relay is ok. It gets power and it provides power.
ECM gets power and ground, so that's okay too. It just does not ground the fuel relay or the coils. Not when ignition is on, nor when cranking.

I can only assume that the ECM is dead.
Yesterday evening I opened it to check if there's burnt components inside, but nothing strange to see.

Oh and still nog trouble codes apart from 1668 from time to time, but I can delete it, it stays away and makes no difference.
