Son broke down in his D2 TD5 just now, rescued him in the tdi.
The fuel pump isn't running, had a quick roadside check of the fuse, swapped a relay, pressed the fuel cut off button. None of these made any difference so towed it back with the Ninety.
Need some advice on the next steps to follow please.

You'll have to see if the pump gets power and if it does means it's dead which is the most likely scenario, first check in C0376/0390(attached) from here the circuit goes to the pump... if no power we'll speak then but if you have power prepare a spare pump cos not very likely that the wires untill the pump to be interrupted but check in the pump's connector too just to make sure

Many thanks for the quick reply, I will try and get on it this evening.
Should I presume it's genuine Land Rover or VDO pump only or is there a cheaper option which has proved reliable?

There is a huge variety of them some reputable brands too, see HERE, it's a lottery these days, i bought a Stark to have it within reach in case of failure on mine based on my own experience with stark pumps for my Hyundai and Opel which are working great but i dont know yet how it works on the Td5. You can also buy just the pump unit and replace it in the existing casing if you feel skilled enough to do that. Good luck

@sierrafery
I have live on cable no2 on the multiplug for approx 20 seconds, nothing on the other cable.

That plug has two wires as it's the power supply for the pump, one should be live the other earth so measure across the two pins immediately after the ignition was turned on
Many thanks, I thought the other may well be the earth but didn't want to presume.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I appreciate it.
