Disco 1 D1 200tdi | Gearbox, Diff and Transfer box

Hi all,

I know this question is asked alot, but there is conflicting information on the gearbox oil especially.

The disco in question is an early model 200tdi, believed to have the LT77 gearbox?

I've listed the following:
- Diff oil EP80/90 GL4 4 litres
- Transfer box EP80/90 GL4 2.7 litre
- Gearbox either Dextron 2 or 3 OR MTF94 ?? litre

Is this all correct? Any further info greatly appreciated.

Forgot to ask, what size is the refill and drain plug?

Fill up until the fluid starts to weep out on level ground, then you are guaranteed of a total fill,
The gearbox filler plug is a 1/2 square male and the transfer box and diffs are a 1/2 square female
I use a normal 1/2 drive bar or ratchet for these, the drains from memory so could be wrong are
15/16 or possibly 7/8,

- Gearbox either Dextron 2 or 3 OR MTF94 ?? litre

I used Dextron 2 but some people swear by MTF94, if you don’t have a problem with gear shifting then
I would stick with the original recommendations,

Need a large spanner/adjustable to remove the lt77 filter bung.
I have used atf dex2 in the gbox for years.

Any thoughts on the diff refill size tool, going to buy one on ebay.

You don’t need one, it’s a 1/2 female square same as the end of a 1/2 inch breaker bar or ratchet,
