OK, so here is the deal.....

I bought a second hand 1999 Defender TD5 recently. I drove it from Lancaster to Southern Spain. 10 miles away from home (here in Spain), the cylinder head decided to blow up. 2,500 euros and three weeks later, the alternator packs in.
I have just received a call from the Landrover people in my nearest town, and they say there is another problem. There wasn't any oil in the engine, and the coolant was contaminated with oil. It sounds like the cylinder head has failed. They say no, and they think it is a problem with (I think ) the oil cooler.
Could this be true, and could it lead to contaminated coolant??

Please help.

Yes it could be the case and yes it can contaminate the coolant.

If the headgasket is gone you may get a small quantity of oil in the coolant. If the oil cooler goes you will get vast quantities of oil in the coolant.

Sounds probable that the oil cooler has gone then. Jesus, I am having bad luck with this Landy.
Anyone recommend where to get an oil cooler at a decent price!!
Anyone know how much one will cost??

Cheers
