:crazy_driver:Does anybody know if you can take the cupholders out, that are in the facelift model ,and refit just a small tray , the cupholder are useless as cup holder as the handles of both cups meet in the middle, i have some mugs that the bottom rim is near same size as the top of the cup holders so they sit on top, but the other day we went out and forgot to put them in , we had just ordinary mugs and nearly spilt the lot .LR does design some stupid things. here is hoping sombody has a fix for them, i did think of shaping a thin piece of wood and painting it black to match .

i was going to cut a bit of plastic, from some left over upvc fascia board and spray it black. quite agree the cup holders are rubbish and make the dash look naff.

To be fair they are designed for 330ml drinks cans. get the tapered insulated mugs.

my pre facelift has em int door card and adjusts to whatever drinks container is placed in it.

the insulated cup fits perfect too :)

yep tried that and i do not like the insulated mugs it has to be a pottery one for me ,as i am old fashioned and live in the potteries ,also i can not drink coke as i am diabetic amoungst other things i will come up with somthing and let you know. but thanks for the input

you could take the cupholders out .. ..
then take the pottery mug .. 'n wrap something like camping-mat foam around them ..
so that they sit solid in the cupholder tray thing ..

or remove the cupholder tray altogether ( 1 screw ) .. and design your own from scratch ..

~~~~~~~
but do consider what damage a pottery mug could cause , should you be involved in an accident.
it could become a lethal bit of 'shrapnel' flying about the cab ..
i never drive with a mug in the cup holder it is only when i am stoped , i do not like getting points on my license ,if there was anything in it the blues and two's boys might think i am drinking it
The History of the Car Cup Holder: BA Daily: bonappetit.com
" Stella Liebeck, a 79-year-old woman, sued McDonald's for damages after spilling 180-degree coffee on her lap in a stationary car. She got third-degree burns from the spill, and was awarded $2.7 million (reduced to $640,000 on appeal) by the jury. The case became fodder for endless Leno monologues and a national argument about tort reform, but it was also a strong argument for industry-wide adoption of the cup holder--if the car she'd been sitting in, her grandson's Ford Probe, had had even one single cup holder, the whole ordeal might have been avoided. "
~~~~~~

" Cup holders aren't just essential for our constant hydration, they're also the source of our psychological well-being on the road: Clotaire Rapaille, a cultural anthropologist, has theorized that having warm liquid close by in the car brings our subconscious back to the safety of early childhood, and the food-love of our mother's milk. "

Aha - at last a rivetting thread. I've been waiting years for this.

Snap-head, pan-head, flat-head, coutersink-head, even blind 'pop'-rivets.

I could write a Phd Thesis on them. :p

Please state the required particular area of interest before I continue.

I loves my pop riveter, but not owning a Def nothing to rivet!!:D

My Fleabag has a pop, yes 'pop open' cup holder on the dashboard but its screwed in not rivetted:(

Been researching the BMW 330. Fine engine, loads of power blabla, but cant find anything on the cup holders - Help!!!
