Hi

Have a V8 manual disco on twin su carbs. The carbs have just been re sealed and had new diaphrams. I now have a landy that goes realy well untill it is up to normal operating temperature where upon the reves drop normaly untill about 1800 - 2000 rpm and then very gradualy drop. If in gear it just keeps pulling and eventualy slows over about 15 seconds. The pistions in the carbs are returning to normal idel position correctly but the reves remain high for a while and then gradualy drop. The car works perfectly when cooler and then messes about when hot. It has been settup cold, hot, warm, with breathers, without breathers, both carbs are balanced.... You get the idea... I dont know what else to try other than throw the carbs away and try some different ones which would kind of defeat the object of having rebuilt carbs. Please help!!!!!!!!!

Excuse me for being dumb but... What?

on the top of yer carbatooters there is a black cap. unscrew it and squirt a small amount of oil in it. if i remember correctly you fill it to the bottom of the threads. if the oil is too light it will reduce the damping effect and yer piston will fly up when its not susposed to. if its too heavy it will remain down or rise too slow.
too quick and yule get a rich mixture too slow and it will be weak.
i just used to bung engine oil in them but i can't remember which was the best weight.

Yep. I filled the dash pots just below the threads with 10-30w engine oil when they were rebuilt. Boo hoooooo...:( My poor land rover's poorly. Any other ideas???? Keep em comin cos I have run out of things to try.

The needles and jets are the origional ones. Its just been resealed and had new diaphrams. Has been set up and tuned by a landrover specialist who has no idea what to do with it next.

1) Whats a springy tit?
2) How do I know if I have saggy tit?
3) Shouldn't springy tits be able to move and not be soldered up?

Nothing worse than a saggy tit:eek:

i must be missing something in the memory dept. the su's i remember had a piston and no diaphram whereas stromberg had a diaphram and no piston

The landy garage rebuilt them for me and said diaphram and seals?? What happened was I'd fill the dash pots with oil and every thing would be fine and the next day I'd floor the accelerator the pistons would fly open and it would slowly pick up speed cos all the oil had leaked out of the pots. It wasn't visibly leaking though. They did their bit re building them and thats when it started sticking and revs droping slowly but only when hot. Its fine the rest of the time when cool (((Just remembered!!! When the revs stick if you switch the engine off and then re start it without touching the choke or accelerator tick over returns to normal untill you blip the accelerator again. When its sticking or slowly droping you can see the pistons have droped to tick over position with the air box and aluminium pipes off????))). I think I might just go and have a little cry now cos i've had enough of driving around in my estate and want my toy back! Any one got any carbs that are surplus to requirement gathering dust on a shelf some where?

**** its years since i played with these things..but you have to ensure the needle is centered and the the enrichment jet is at the correct height
