Cruise control is all working fine, but a question about it please.
Yet again today, after braking at a roundabout (thereby disengaging cc) I then motored on through the town to later realize that it was still on (on the dash switch). The question is - does it do harm to leave it switched on but not in use, if you understand what I mean.
Also - mines a 2.5DT so the right hand steering wheel switch doesn't do anything. Is that right?

I thought the right switch was the resume button, left set button, so once you have braked and its clear you just press resume and of the car goes back up to your set cruise speed.
 
The left button yes, to set and also to increase set speed by pressing until its at the new set speed.
The right button, I think, on petrol motors decellerates and re sets at the lower speed. Doesn't do anything on mine!
 
To set mine drive up to desired speed press set and it stays there, touch brakes of it comes off, press right button resume and on it goes again, I thought they all worked that way
you may have a duff switch, all the steering wheels ive seen have set and resume.
 
Cruise control is only active at or above 28 MPH. If you are on cruise control at say 50 MPH and have to brake, the cruise will disengage. Providing the speed does not drop below 28 MPH, when pressing resume the vehicle should accelerate back up to 50 MPH. If the vehicle speed falls below 28 MPH resume will not work and the vehicle will have to be accelerated up to a speed above 28 MPH and the cruise reset.

It is recommended to switch cruise off when not in use but it will do no harm to leave it on in my experience. Hows that. ;)

That's what I needed to hear - thanks!
Have checked in the owners manual - apparently mine is working as it should. There is no 'Res' on diesels. Right hand steering wheel button is redundant...

I'd agree. Although oddly my Jag X-Type doesn't have an on/off switch for the cruise. It's always on, just not engaged. So can't see any harm leaving it switched on.
 
Surprised a DT even has it. Mine doesn't!

Mine seems to be quite well equipped tho' - its 2000. Don't know how true it is about 'end of the range' having extras being added to get them sold ...
(but the 'res' button still doesn't do anything :()

Have you tried it as suggested? In BECM options menu, cruise is either set (fitted) or unset (not fitted), there is no option to disable functions. You may have a problem with either the button itself or the rotary coupling.
 
Duh! Sometimes 'one feels such a fool'. :oops: I tried it again today. Works fine. I just hadn't used it properly before, having misinterpreted the owners handbook. The diesel doesn't have the decellerate function on the right hand button like petrol models do, but it does resume (as Wammers said it would) to the previous setting. Thanks - sorry for the time wasting:rolleyes:

Petrol models don't have a "decelerate" function either, just use the RES resume or the brakes to disengage cruise control and SET again at a lower speed as required, but if your vehicle has active cruise control fitted it does decelerate as needed.
