hi

as promised said i would update on my progress fitting cruise control to a 2002 FL 1 td4 auto

well it works :):):):):), after getting the cruise ecu for £20 from a breakers plugged it in and away i went

went down the road sat at 50mph put on the master switch ,light came up on the switch, then pressed set, then res and nothing then pressed set again and the light came up on the dashboard and took my foot of the pedal and had cruise control

however

it doesnt seem to be doing as it says in the owners book instructions.

ie, press set to set speed
then press res to activate the cruise control

i have to press set for the speed.
then press res-then set-then res and it will come on.

now im not sure if i have to take it down to a dealer to plug it into a T4 but they now want £90 for the privalage to turn it on.

now surely by it working it must be activated but on the other hand im thinking only part of it is working but dont want to spend out £90 just for them to tell me if its on or off.

in the mean time if i press the switch twice it will come on

unless im being a complete numbnuts and doing it wrong.

my other thoughts are could it be a faulty ecu, they did advise me it came off a working from the last FL

is there any other way that i can check its activated without having to go to a main dealer

whilst the cruise is on, if i press the plus or minus it will increase and decrease and when i put my foot on the brake will deactivate it.

was just wondering if anyone may have a device please that can tell me if my cruise is on or off and able to turn it on please am of course more than happy to travel to you and pay for it.

thanks again and i must admit i was really pleased it worked and gobsmacked as was really expecting it to fail

all the best

get in touch with a good independant and they will look at it for less than half the price of a dealer, i think you've gone as far as you can without getting it hooked up and checked/coded to the car, these things ain't plug n play unfortunately.....

If it's working, then it's working. Leave as is un save yer money. Well done. :)

Hey Gary this sounds great. :D I've been looking at retro fitting cruise control to my 03 TD4 auto for a while now, and have had a read through all the threads on here, and of course you very informative ones. You make it sound quite simple. Is it really just a case of ensuring the wiring is there, sourcing a cc ecu, master switch and steering wheel paddle? Think I'll be digging under my carpet later to see if the looms are there. The wires are there behind the master switch as you desribe. Oh and is the loom (if it exists) under the passenger or drivers seat?

Cheers

hiya

the wiring loom is under the drivers seat, there is a very small slit in the carpet and if you have a good feel around underneath there should be a plug, have posted a picture of it,

the hardest thing was finding the dashboard switch.

ive since tried the cruise control again and worked it out for some reason have to press the set switch twice and then works a charm.

once the light comes on i can increase the speed bit by bit and also found out if i accelerate above what ive set the cruise control to and then come back down as long as it taken about 20 secs the cruise control takes over again.

feel very happy that its worked but i kno wouldnt have got it working or attempted it without the great advice i got here

but at the end of the day all i done was to plug everything in and it worked so for some reason mine didnt need activating as it reconised it as soon as i plugged it in.

but did test the wiring before i started to order things

thanks so much again guys,

if i can help anyone else please feel free to give me a shout.
