crossmember

whilst offroading at the weekend we noticed my mates 02 td5 defenders rear crossmember was very heavily rusted and bubbled,when we tapped it it sounded like tappin on a bisquit tin lid,we looked at mine 1988 model and it doesnt look like its been replaced and has no rust atall and no repairs and when you tap it it sounds like your tapping a fooking great iron girder..surely the newer xmembers cant be that flimsy?..for the mo hes gonna rub it down and paint it and see what happens

In 88 they used real steel - and it sounds like yours has been taken care of over the years.

Just replaced mine after 23 years was a hefty lump of steel to. hope me new brit part one lasts the same cos i dont wanna do that again.
