Hi Guys ,
I have just bought a 2006 Freelander TD4 . I have checked the service history and the crankcase filter hasn't been changed for over 20,000 miles can one of you more experienced guys tell me where it is located and what sort of job is it to do ? Also the electric sunroof makes a horrible clicking sound when trying to close , it eventually close after a couple of attempts . Help Guys .

Hi Eddie, and :welcome2:

Do a search for pcv and you should find all you need to know about how to access and change it.

Its under the engine cover at the back - 3 allan-head screws to take off.

You need to be gentle with removing a couple of the leak-off fuel pipes to access the retaining screws on the pcv cover - but apart from that its no problem.

Get the updated BMW Oil Separator vortex / cyclone replacement part for the pcv - don't just replace the cotton original type, which can block and do expensive damage.

As I said - do a search and come back if you need more info.

Can't help with the sun-roof as I never use it - and don't know anything about how to fix it.

Someone else who does know will be along soon.

Singvogel.

And if the inside of the crankcase breather filter is a plastic cyclone type and not a cotton roll don't change it. The plastic BMW type is ok and the one you want to have. (Sorry Singvogel but felt he needs to know that just in case the previous owner had it changed already).

Quite right willo - I hadn't thought of that.

No need to say 'sorry'. ;)

He may have to open the pcv twice but he may save himself £23 or so. :)

tiger seal is your friend, and don't forget to take out the fuse ;)

I took out the fuse, and after closing it firmly I put a ring of silicone around on top of the roof, it doesn't look very nice but it's watertight .....:bounce:

as long as the sunroof is closed it should have been ok as any excess water goes down the drain pipes therefor would not want a seal around it

Mine was always closed but nevertheless the iron ring around was always rusting at the front. It was also always wet and as said rusty. Now it's still rusted but doesn't rust any further and at least always dry. Now I keep the inner roof closed and no problem for me.
