Hi all,
just fixed the SLS and now a new problem… never gets old.
Rattling from front of engine. Took the fan off and ran without belt and noise seemed to disappear. Checked all the pulleys and they seemed fine. Ran engine with belt and slacked off slowly, noise quietened considerably but didn’t disappear as was case with no belt, but longer it was left slack the quieter it got. Assuming it must be the crank pulley.
Question is - what causes the rattling on these pulleys/balancers?
I managed to get my camera down there and get a look at it close up. For some reason forum telling me I don’t have permission to upload. From pic you can see traces of metal dust/shavings on the pulley.
Do both balancer and pulley need to be replaced, depending on what root of problem is?
not looking forward to getting the bolt out.
cheers,
Robb
