Hi all,

Just though id get a few opinions on my suspect cracked block on my Disco Tdi.

Bought this car on the cheap with the idea of wrecking it and making some $$$ as Land Rover parts here in Australia are very expensive but wouldn't mind giving this old girl another lease of life.

I remember how rusty these Disco's get in the UK but here in OZ with the climate this thing hasnt got a spot of rust on her.

The engine has been previously overheated and had a head job done on it but had a lot of piston slap. After pulling the engine down found 3 of the pistons picked up a fair bit on their skirts and then noticed what appears to be a hairline crack in CYL 4.

It actually ran quite well appart from the piston slap prior to strip down..

Your thoughts are welcome.

bore wear is quite unusual as is piston slap but overheating can alter piston shape at skirt and cause it to pick up ,its rare for 300s to crack blocks but has been known ,easy way to be sure is to fill block with water and leave overnight if its cracked water will seep into crack and leave rusty line where crack is,if block is allright it would need new pistons and head
